Write to hello@bengala.app and we will answer. It helps to tell us your device, your iOS version and what the projector is.

The projector is not detected

  1. Check the adapter. An iPhone 15 or later and a USB-C iPad need a USB-C adapter or cable that carries video, not a charging cable. Older iPhones need a Lightning to HDMI adapter, and Apple’s own is the safe choice.
  2. Try another HDMI cable, and plug it in firmly at both ends.
  3. On the projector, pick the HDMI input you plugged into. Many have two, and they do not switch by themselves.
  4. Unplug the adapter, wait five seconds and plug it in again. The projector status at the top of Home turns green and shows the resolution when it works. Tap it to open the Connect sheet, then tap Show test pattern to see a grid on the wall. The test pattern works on Home, not inside a project.
  5. Close Bengala from the app switcher, open it again, and try once more.

If the status stays gray, send us the projector model and the adapter you use, and we will look into it.

How do I connect with AirPlay?

  1. Open Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner. With a Home button, swipe up from the bottom.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring, the icon with two overlapping rectangles.
  3. Pick your projector or TV. It has to support AirPlay. Keep mirroring on while you project.

The phone and the projector (or the Apple TV) need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. The projector status at the top of Home turns green when it works. A projector without AirPlay can get it from an Apple TV on its HDMI port. More in AirPlay vs HDMI for projectors and on the gear page.

The projector shows my home screen or stays black

  1. Open a project in Bengala. The projector shows its picture only while a project is open.
  2. With AirPlay, use Screen Mirroring in Control Center. Do not use the AirPlay button inside another app: it sends only that app’s video, not the Bengala screen. Keep mirroring on.
  3. With HDMI, check the adapter and the cable, and that the projector is on the HDMI input you plugged into. Many have two, and they do not switch by themselves.
  4. Turn the projector off and on again, then reconnect the phone.

If the wall is still black, write to us with the projector model and how you connect it.

AirPlay is laggy or blurry

AirPlay sends the screen as compressed video over Wi-Fi, so some delay and softness are normal. For the best picture use HDMI. If you have to stay on AirPlay, put the phone and the projector on the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, stay close to the router, close other apps that use the network, and choose slower effects.

Effects are not downloading

  1. Check that your phone is online. Effects need the internet once, to download.
  2. Effects come from our own download address (cdn.bengala.app). Some work, school and public networks, VPNs and content blockers block it. Try another network, or turn the VPN off for a moment.
  3. Tap the effect again to retry. If a download stalls, close the app and open it again.
  4. Make sure the phone has free space. In Settings you can see how much downloaded effects take and clear them.

Effects you have already downloaded play offline.

Restore purchases

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases (it is also on the purchase screen). Use the same Apple Account you bought with. If Pro still does not appear, write to us with the date of the purchase and the order number from Apple’s receipt email.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Apple manages subscriptions, not us. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You can also go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. The lifetime plan is a one-time purchase.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a problem with the app caused it, please tell us as well.

Why is there a watermark moving over my projection?

The free plan puts a small Bengala watermark on the projection. Pro removes it. It also appears in the preview on your phone, so what you see is what the wall shows.

The picture is flipped when I project from behind a window

That is what rear projection does. In the editor, open the … menu and turn on Mirror output. There is a full setup in the window guide.

My projector is on its side

In the editor, open the … menu and use Projector rotation to turn the output left or right.

Flashing light

Some effects flash or change brightness quickly. If anyone near the projection is sensitive to flashing light, use slow effects. Read the warning in our terms.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet.

Soporte

Escríbenos a hello@bengala.app y te respondemos.

Todavía no.
